Background:

The 2020 Census is a headcount of every person living in the United States and is conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. Each home in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire — online, by phone, or by mail.

WHY DOES THE CENSUS MATTER?

The Census determines representation in the U.S. House of Representatives, and leaders use it to make important community decisions. Based on Census information, more than $675 billion dollars a year are allocated for roads, schools, hospitals, emergency response, and public programs such as SNAP, Medicaid and Pell Grants.

In Pennsylvania, estimates show that every resident NOT counted in the Census costs our communities approximately $21,000. That’s why we need you. Become a 2020 Census Ambassador to help ensure that everyone in Philadelphia is counted!!
