Black History Month is a time of reflection, education, and celebration—a moment to honor the past while shaping the future. This year, the Urban League of Philadelphia is launching #CultureStoriesULP, a campaign dedicated to uplifting Black history and culture through storytelling, history, and shared experiences.

The Power of Storytelling: For generations, storytelling has been a vital part of Black culture. From the griots of West Africa to the voices of civil rights leaders, stories have preserved history, inspired movements, and connected communities. Culture Stories aims to continue this legacy by amplifying the voices of Philadelphians who are shaping Black culture today.

What to Expect in This Month’s Celebration:

  • Cultural Spotlights: Exploring music, art, and traditions that have influenced generations.

  • Community Voices: Highlighting Black entrepreneurs, activists, and educators making a difference.

  • Black History in Motion: Visiting historical landmarks, museums, and cultural hubs.

  • Live Events & Engagement: Attending panels, networking mixers, and interactive experiences across Philadelphia.

The Urban League of Philadelphia has always been committed to supporting and uplifting the most in-need communities. Culture Stories is an extension of this work, highlighting the lives and experiences of those who are shaping the present and future of our city and who we serve each day.

By celebrating the everyday stories of Black Philadelphians, we acknowledge the struggles they have faced and the resilience they have demonstrated. These stories are a powerful reminder that the fight for justice, economic empowerment, and equity is ongoing, and that through collective storytelling, we can continue to advocate for progress.

How You Can Be Involved:

  • Share Your Story: Whether it's a favorite family tradition, a cultural lesson, or an inspiring moment—use #CultureStoriesULP to add your voice.

  • Attend Cultural Events: From Black-owned food tours to museum exhibits, there are countless ways to experience Black history in action.

  • Support Black Businesses: This month, we’re spotlighting Black-owned restaurants, bookstores, and entrepreneurs making an impact.

Black history isn’t just something we study—it’s something we live, breathe, and create every day. Culture Stories is more than a campaign; it’s a movement to recognize and celebrate Black excellence, not just in February, but all year round.

The Urban League of Philadelphia remains committed to amplifying the stories of our community, advocating for economic opportunity, and continuing the fight for justice. Culture Stories ensures that every voice is heard and that every story has a place in shaping our shared future.

Stay tuned as we share powerful stories, uplifting experiences, and moments that honor our past while shaping our future.
