While statistics show that homeownership is down from historical levels, it is still an aspiration for 61% of Americans. That number is likely to rise as the housing industry continues to recover. That is good news not only for potential first-time homebuyers, but also for the overall economy. This is increasingly important for Black Americans. After many efforts to prevent Black people from owning a home, including redlining and predatory lending which has played a significant role in the wealth gap between Black Americans and White Americans. Homeownership is one of the best ways to establish wealth.
